Jim was born in Washington D.C., but grew up mostly in suburban Chicago, where his Dad pastored a church. He is one of six kids and the youngest boy in his family. One of Jim’s first jobs was tending balls at a driving range. He thought it was quite hilarious that golfers would take aim at his cart as he drove around the range collecting the balls. Jim met his wife, Dawn, while attending Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. They settled in Dawn’s hometown of St. Joseph, where they raised four kids together. Jim and Dawn currently reside in Paw Paw. Jim has long loved to be outdoors, and enjoys staying fit through biking and running. He has competed in several marathons and raced bicycles for both sport and pleasure. Jim is truly a kid at heart; he loves celebrating his birthday and shooting off fireworks on the 4th of July. When he’s not in the office, Jim can be found reading, riding his bike, or spending time Dawn and the kids. He is a proud grandpa to two wonderful grandchildren, and very blessed by his entire family.
Dawn was born and raised in St. Joseph. She was an educator for many years, teaching at the Elementary level, before eventually taking her talents full-time to the home front. Having raised four kids who are now grown and graduated, Dawn serves the office in a much more official role than ever before, aiding Jim and our clients in a multitude of ways. She cheers for the Bears and Bulls, and loves a good, healthy salad for dinner. If you asked her for a list of best places to visit, she would recommend the islands of Hawaii, or Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. When not on the clock, Dawn can be found spending loads of time with her two adorable grandkids. She also enjoys being out on the lake, as well as biking, reading, or baking. Something not everyone knows about Dawn is how good she is at ping-pong, tennis and racquet ball.
Lisa is our office assistant extraordinaire. From nearby Benton Harbor, Lisa enjoys watching dirt bike races with her husband, Tony, and son, Jalin, both of whom also race. She proudly owns two very spoiled German Shepherds. When not in the office, you can find Lisa shopping, at the gym, or just keeping things organized. She admits to being a little OCD, which comes in handy when scrapbooking or volunteering at Jalins’ school. If you’d like to make Lisa’s day, just bring her a slice of pizza or some snickers ice cream. She is a nature enthusiast, and has visited many national parks, including The Badlands, Mount Rushmore, and Yellowstone.
Mike grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He’s an avid hockey fan and still loves his New York Rangers. Mike met his wife on his very first night at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, and they’ve been together ever since. They have two sons. One works in the automotive industry and the other in aviation. Mike enjoys all types of music, and when he’s out of the office, he loves to go camping or exploring. One of his favorite explorations took place in the United Kingdom, where he traversed from Cornwall to Balmoral. Mike lives in La Porte County, Indiana, where he recently became an elected official, giving him the opportunity to serve the second largest county in Indiana. If there’s one thing that Mike truly appreciates, it’s homemade apple crumb pie with vanilla ice cream.
Deb lives in Dowagiac with her husband Bill. They have four grown kids, and a total of 10 grandchildren! Deb loves having the grandkids over for slumber parties. The only sport Deb takes interest in is football, and she cheers for the Detroit Lions. Some of her hobbies include reading, doing puzzle books, and watching movies. When she’s not at the office, she enjoys spending time with Bill or falling asleep in her favorite chair. If Deb could recommend a great getaway spot, it would be Drummond Island up in Northern Michigan. Her favorite food is beef and noodles. Serve her that with a strawberry daiquiri and some ice cream for dessert, and you’ve got one happy Deb.
Ryan is the eldest son of Jim Hartwell, and learning everything he can about the business from his dad. Having been raised in St. Joseph, Ryan moved out west and lived in Colorado for a few years before returning to join our staff. Ryan is an athlete. He has completed six half IRONMAN competitions and one full IRONMAN. When not in the office, he enjoys riding his bike or skiing. Ryan is passionate about Chicago sports and Domino’s pizza, cheering loudly for the Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and Cubs. Ryan is active in his local church, helping with the kids programs and serving in the men’s ministry. One interesting thing about Ryan, if you look closely you’ll notice that his eyes are two different colors.
Paul grew up in Souderton, PA, about 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia. He is a passionate sports fan and proudly follows all the Philly teams; especially the Eagles and Phillies. His wife, Erin, is Jim and Dawn’s eldest daughter. Paul and Erin previously lived in Budapest, Hungary, where they both taught English in a public high school, and southern California, where they spent as much time as possible at the beach. Paul likes good food, craft beer, and music. He enjoys cooking (when he has the time), going to concerts, and visiting many of the breweries located here in Southwest MI. When not at work, Paul simply loves being with Erin and their two kids, Kensington and Holden. As a family, they appreciate being involved at church, going to the library, or spending time at the park.
